The Power of Kindness
One sunny afternoon, I was walking home from school when I noticed an old man struggling to get up the steep stairs of the subway station. His hands were full with heavy bags, and his face was filled with pain and exhaustion. I felt sorry for him and decided to help.
"Let me carry your bags for you," I said in Chinese, although he looked confused at first. He nodded slowly, and I took one bag, then another, placing them carefully on my shoulders. The stairs were indeed steep, and I could feel the weight of the bags, but I kept going. After several steps, I noticed he was breathing heavily, so I slowed down a bit.
When we finally reached the top of the stairs, he thanked me profusely. I smiled and said, "No worries, it's nothing." His eyes filled with tears as he spoke about how he had been carrying those heavy bags for hours and how much his back hurt. I looked around and noticed some people were staring at us, but I didn't care. I just kept smiling.
Later, I realized how kind people can make a big difference in someone's life. Even though the man was a stranger, his gratitude and tears made me feel very happy. I understood that small acts of kindness can have a big impact, and it made me want to help others more often.
This experience taught me that kindness is one of the most important things we can do in life. It not only helps others but also brings joy to ourselves. I hope to continue doing small acts of kindness, no matter how big or small they are.
